THE CANON

Every ninety years, twelve gods incarnate as humans. They are loved. They are hated. In two years, they are dead.

The above is the basic premise of The Wicked + The Divine, an on-going comic from Kieron Gillen and Jamie McKelvie (plus occasional guest stars.) The other key thing is that the gods in the WicDiv universe are sort of like rock stars, complete with performances and loyal fans. A group of twelve gods is called a Pantheon, and their incarnation is called a Recursion.

In 2014, a new Recursion happens in London.

(A note for those familiar with WicDiv: Baphomet's default canonpoint for memes is somewhere vaguely around the first two story arcs, The Faust Act and Fandemonium.)

THE BASICS

Baphomet is about 21 years old, English, and a god.

Before godhood, he was called Cameron, and he was a run-of-the-mill tabletop RPing goth. He became a god because his girlfriend became triple-goddess the Morrigan first.

Oh, and he's (SPOILERS!) not actually Baphomet. He's actually Nergal, but not even the other gods know that because he immediately refused that title in favour of something cooler. Probably says something about him as a person. Which brings us to the next section...

PERSONALITY

Some people deserve to be annoyed.

Baphomet is a goddamned troll. He takes very little seriously, makes bad puns, and generally gets on people's nerves. Of course, this is all a cover for how deeply terrified he is of the fact that now that he's a god, he knows he'll be dead in two years.

 

APPEARANCE

I work on my pallor as much as my abs.

Baphomet is a super pale guy with black hair, orange eyes, and fangs. And abs for daaays. Nearly his entire aesthetic is a rip-off from Andrew Eldritch: he favours black leather and going shirtless, and thick chains around his neck, more often than not with a goat's head pendant hanging on his chest because he's going all out on the satanic occult thing.

Think 'muscular goth in leather'.
